ABOUT ME
My name is Jake and I’ve had a passion for designing, building and fixing things since I was a teen. It started with home renovation projects alongside my parents and soon after, I was working in construction. I started my first company at 16 and studied landscape design at my local college. Eventually, I earned my Master’s in Civil Engineering from UNM in Albuquerque and worked on some major civil engineering projects. After a detour to serve in the US military as a Green Beret, I became a Licensed General Contractor in the state of North Carolina.
Recognizing a need in our community for higher quality workmanship is what inspired me to start Modern Handyman. Too often, this field is dominated by uncaring and incompetent people—either by guys who are unlicensed and doing home repair as a last resort or by those who want to make a quick dollar and will subcontract shoddy work to pad profits. That’s not what you get with Modern Handyman.
My mission is to show up at every job, big or small, with the goal of improving our community and leaving a positive legacy. A home that is well-maintained reduces stress for families, bolsters pride of ownership, increases resale value and strengthens the foundation of our city.
